Happy Friday!

Oh London!

The London Eye this morning
As I write this I am sitting on the balcony of what used to be my address in London (I'm renting my old from a friend while she's travelling) and looking out over roof tops to a glorious hazy blue and mellow yellow sky.  I can't believe I am still awake though after arriving in this morning from New York and getting no sleep on the plane.  It is going to be an early night for me as soon as the sun sets!  I don't know about you but do find some places you visit just feel like you've been there before in another life?  London is like that for me, it feels incredibly like home even though home is technically Australia.  As soon as I get in to London I'm at ease, I love this city.

New York City Day 3

New York City in the Spring is glorious!  I have been snapping photos left, right and centre and have just resorted to leaving my iphone in my pocket instead of my bag.  Even though the weather the past couple days has been a little on the chilly side there have been bright blue skies and only the occasional cloud pattern.  I'm definitely a tourist this trip as most of my photos are looking upwards, as was my head most of the day!  Thankfully I haven't knocked anyone over on the side walk!  As the sun came out today and thawed me out, I sat on a bench in Union Square staring at the Empire State Building and wondered how tiny we must be against all these imposing, towering architectural marvels.

I love travelling America.  I absolutely love it.  One of my favourite things to do in a city is to shop and not just shop for shoppings sake but I love to take in every store and the way they merchandise, the aesthetic and atmosphere and the staff too.  It stems from my degrees in Psychology and Fashion and Textiles and has sort of become an obsession.  Thank goodness for Iphone's because I would look like a really crazy person pulling out a massive SLR camera in every shop!  This trip I have become a little more obsessed with Anthropologie as every time I walk in to their stores I feel a sense of calm wash over me and I immediately get the Iphone out to start snapping away.  I find their stores full of inspiration and creative finds and walk away refreshed, ready to begin a new project.  This video has the same effect on me, and I have added a new flea market to visit- Brimfield.  You'll see why!

New York City- Day 2

Soho
Oh how I love this city!  I spent the entire day walking around Greenwich and Soho today with the sunshine outside, I ate delicious Pad Thai for lunch and sat in a park eating the one and only Magnolia Bakery cupcakes.  Yum!  Of course it was a shopping day too, more on that later!  I have been using the DK Top Ten travel guide to New York City as it covers each area individually and is amazingly helpful with it's miniature maps of each area.  There were so many people out enjoying the sunset on the walk back to the hotel that it almost felt like summer and there was even a queue to the hotel rooftop bar.

Something completely random that I noticed today... I didn't see any women with their hair up in a top knot or bun.  A high bun is my go to hair style for travelling as I can't stand having my hair in my face and I get super hot when it's down.  But there were none, I walked all day and did not see a single one.  So very different from London.

New York City- Day One!

5th Ave
Oh my feet.  I can not tell you how incredibly sore they are right now!  I wore ballet flats for my first day in the city and lasted only a few hours.  I don't know how New York women do it, actually yes I do, they either wear heels and catch taxis or they wear really comfy shoes and walk.  Unfortunately my budget is going to force me to buy a pair of comfortable shoes. Spring hasn't fully sprung in New York City yet but the Macy's flower show in 34th Street have some beautiful daffodils and blossoms out the front.

I'm Loving... Rifle Paper Co.

A Girl, A Style recently posted a photo of delightful stationary from Rifle Paper Co. and when I was thinking of writing some cards to dear friends in Australia their website was my first point of call.  I had such a hard time trying to choose just a couple cards and because I'm travelling it was totally impractical to buy more than necessary.  I fell in love with their vintage inspired florals, comical animal prints and assortment of 'Hello' cards.

A close in friend in Australia is having a baby and the animal card below is just adorable and will make the perfect card for the occasion.  I've already selected a Mother's Day card to post to Australia too, I'm sure Mum will love it!

The Deep South

I had such a relaxing time in quiet Mississippi with family for the past couple weeks that it's going to be strange being in such a populated city.  New York here I come!  Although I am looking forward very much to shopping and sightseeing my favourite place in the world (alongside London and Paris of course).  At this point I don't have any plans to come back and visit for a while so I'm sure there will be tears at the airport!  Here's a little photo recap of my southern adventure.

This week I'm going to New York City! I can not wait to be in the city again and shop my heart out.  Walking around and shopping all day is going to require a comfortable outfit; jeans and ballet flats here I come!  Of course Spring has finally arrived and pastel greens and peaches are going to play a large part of my wardrobe in the coming months although, being a pasty white colour after months in a European winter I don't think I can pull off clothing in such a light colour.  I'll stick to the accessories instead!

Cotton: The fabric of our lives

As I'm currently in America visiting some family we've had some quiet nights and while watching TV I saw an amazing TV advert for Cotton: The fabric of our lives.  Zooey Deschanel starred in the advert and immediately prompted me to search the web.  If you're not taken in by the advert itself have a look at the video extras.  Kate Bosworth is also featured in an advert for Cotton and although I love Zooey's advert and her outfits are incredible, I was really taken with the extra video components of Kate Bosworth's.  Kate is so effortlessly cool and laid back that you feel like you're on the couch talking with her.  Make sure you listen to the soundtracks also because the lyrics are just beautiful and they are sung by the girls themselves!

As I added this video content from You Tube I noticed it was first added in 2009.  Is it really that old?

Am I really going? Yes!

Ok so, I am so super excited I just hit my head on my bedroom wall writing this!  Ouch!  I'm going to The Vogue Festival!!  I saw on CoCo's Tea Party that Vogue are holding their own festival this year- 2 days of totally self indulgent fashion brilliance and I am going!  If you read regularly you might remember that I'm currently travelling as I could no longer work in the UK (legally) and had to leave my beloved London.  Well the advantage of travelling with no immediate plans or destinations means that I can head back to the UK and attend this awesome event.  Oh my I'm jittering I'm so excited!

I booked tickets to both afternoon sessions which means I'll be sitting up close and personal with Dolce & Gabbana, Mary Portas, Stella Mc Cartney, Tom Ford, Lily Cole, Natalia Vodianova, Rachel Zoe and many more.  It might actually be a dream come true... yep definitely.

Bella Italia- Florence... Again

The Duomo

I am an addict.  I just can't help myself.  Whenever the opportunity arises to see Florence, Italy I jump at it! I actually don't know anyone who wouldn't want to spend hours wandering the streets of such an impressive city. My last visit to Florence was in October last year with my best friend for a couple days, and although this visit was only for the day it was certainly a special one.  One of my dear friends and I caught the train from Lucca, about an hour away early in the morning and wandered the streets for hours.  We stopped to enjoy some truffle oil spaghetti and gelati, bought handbags at the leather market (because I really need another handbag- eeek!) and admired the view of the Ponte Vecchio.  Florence is perhaps one of top top 5 cities in the world.

I love the bronze doors

Which Watch?

I'm compiling a shopping list for my upcoming trip to New York City and so far I will be paying a visit to Victoria's Secret and I definitely intend on stopping by Marc Jacobs.  I don't wear a watch although I have a beautiful watch sitting patiently waiting for my return in Australia.  I just couldn't stand the thought of losing it during my European hiatus so thought it was best to stay behind.  Now, I'm looking for a more casual watch to wear everyday and as you can see from the below I believe I have a thing for rose gold and silver.  Help me decide, what's your favourite?

Kate Spade and Florence

It was only a couple weeks ago that I was talking about Florence Broadhurst here and now she's popped up on Kate Spade!  Kate Spade has borrowed some of the iconic designs of Florence Broadhurst and turned them in to show stopper pieces for the Spring season.  I love a good promotional video too!

Spring has Sprung!

Pinterest
This morning I woke up and walked to the kitchen to get a juice and as I looked out the window the grass was the greenest I've seen it since I've been in America.  The trees were covered in little green leaves and dew covered every surface.  Spring has arrived.

Southern Style

Photo 2- taken by me

I'm spending some quality time with family in Mississippi at the moment and experiencing some true Southern hospitality!  The incredibly strong Southern accent, sweeping swamp land and statuesque homes are absolutely what you imagine the south the be like and I feel very lucky that I get to wake up in such an amazing place everyday.

I'm crushing on...

Travelling for long periods of time requires much planning in the outfit department and of late I have become quite attuned to what my travel style is; easy.  I'm always either a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl or I'm a dress and leggings girl, depending on the weather and occasion you will always find me in either option.  Lately though I have this major urge to buy a pair of great coloured chinos to brighten my travel wardrobe.  I don't know if my luggage can handle another piece of clothing being stuffed in though!

Bella Italia- Lucca

A little over a week ago I boarded an 8 hour train ride to Tuscany to visit a dear friend of mine living with her parents in Italy and it was absolutely wonderful.  We spent our days touring the sights of Italy and our nights drinking red wine and cooking incredible pasta dishes! First on the itinerary was Lucca, an hour outside of Pisa and my home for 5 nights.  My dearest friend is my antiquing and vintage shopping buddy and the weekend I was in town the monthly market arrived and was truly an overwhelming experience.  We ventured out to explore the markets in the afternoon and I just could not comprehend the quality, age and sensational variety of antiques available.  Everywhere I looked I wanted to buy something!  I did end up buying a beautiful silk vintage scarf in an abstract print filled with greens, blues, black and yellow that I intend to frame when I finally settle in one country but it would be too easy to fill a shipping container shopping in antique markets like that one!  I think perhaps photographs will tell you more than I can describe.

The delicacies were too much to take!

I am in love with this circus mirror (bottom left).

Just everything was so amazing!
One of the things I noticed most about Lucca was how quiet it was during the day.  The day we shopped the antiques market was a Saturday and it wasn't until 5pm in the evening that the streets filled with locals and the antique stalls turned on their makeshift lighting to keep selling in to the night.  Everyone walked in groups and stood in the squares socialising with their little dogs nipping at their feet for attention while my dear friend and I watched them all eating some of the most delicious desserts I've ever tasted!

How to: Rid Static Cling

Still from Because I Said So

Whenever my Mum and I get some down time together (which hasn't happened a lot in the past 2 years since I live on the other side of the world) we try and watch Because I Said So.  One of my favourite scenes from the movie is when Mandy Moore and Gabriel Macht's characters meet and 'Johnny' says to 'Milly'- "Even before I met you I had an instinct about you.  Once I saw you were a woman with profound static cling I wanted to be that force around you".  Yep, totally cheesy but so adorable.

Anyway, today I was a woman of profound static cling, terrible profound static cling.  I was wearing one of my favourite vintage dresses made of polyester and my everyday leggings, also made of polyester and the result was me constantly pulling at my dress.  I have been investigating and I am going to try the following to fix my profound static cling!

Still from Because I Said So

1. Get an anti static dryer sheet and rub along the inside of the dress from the hem upwards.
2. Apply moisturising lotion to the affected area ie: your legs!
3. Use talcum powder on the affected area before dressing
4. Buy Anti Static Spray
5. Pin a safety pin to the inside of the hem

Boho Behaviour

I love keeping up to date with videos from H&M and yesterday I watched this Life video from their you tube collection.  What a cool job Soyon has!  As I'm in America at the moment and American Idol has just selected their top contenders I will be watching with a close eye to see what everyone is wearing.  Check out the awesome bracelet/ring jewellery Soyon is wearing, I have no idea what they're called but they look beautiful.
