Tourist Tales: Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs

At the Musee Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris, the Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibition is currently underway until September 12th and is definitely a must see if you have an obsession with vintage Louis Vuitton like myself!  The trunks within the exhibition are from the Louis Vuitton archives and there must be at least 50 of them on display in addition to the amazing dresses rotating and reflected in mirrors.  The exhibition focuses on the history of Louis Vuitton illustrating immaculately preserved products and once upstairs the focus shifts to Marc Jacobs and his enthusiasm for pop culture. Certainly an unusual experience to see the juxtaposition of the brand 'now' and 'then' but most definitely made me walk away appreciating the heritage of Louis Vuitton and the creativity of Marc Jacobs.

I am absolutely in love with the video above based on the book available to purchase from the book shop.  If it wasn't so heavy I would have bought it!  There are multiple pieces shown in the video that are on display in the exhibition too for instance at the 21 second mark the "Trunk Bed" is opened and on show.

Walk It Out

Source
While I said that I was going to go shopping in my wardrobe this week I also may have ventured to the mall today although my purpose was for the good.  I bought a new pair of trainers!  I'm really looking forward to getting back in to boxing and hitting some classes at the gym.  Next on my list is to buy a gym membership, that one's going to hurt the bank balance!

What a week!

I get to wake up to this view every morning in Australia
It has been exactly one week since I arrived back in Australia and it has gone by so fast, probably due to the unpacking overload I'm experiencing.  I shipped home a ridiculous amount of boxes from the UK and I haven't even reached them on the "To Do" list yet!  At least I no longer have a suitcase and pack exploding all over the room and looking at my mess was definitely one of those 'I don't know where to begin' moments.  One of the more exciting parts of unpacking is going shopping, in your own closet!  I haven't seen so many of my things since January that it's going to be as good as hitting the mall but I already know I love what's there!

I'm still decompressing everything that has happened over the past month, no... make that 6 months, and it's quite a challenge to overcome but I'm getting there and in the meantime I get to spend quality time with my family and friends that I haven't seen for two and a half years.

I'm crushing on...

I love the combination of metallic silver and textured grey.  I am on the search now for the perfect skirt and sweater so I can wear it this in the Aussie winter, although even as a self confessed winter lover I am not fond of wool and cashmere to wear, I just get too hot!

Food Envy

As I board a jet plane board Australia bound I hope there will be champagne waiting at the other end for me to being a new chapter and preferably with rose ice cubes!  How darling is that?!

I'm just about to set my alarm and go to bed but thought I would reflect on the milestone that is tomorrow.  In the morning I am boarding a plane and flying to Australia.  I have lived in Europe for two and a half years and in 36 hours I shall be a resident of Australia again.  As I have mentioned before Australia is where I grew up but in the past has not felt like home to me and I have the feeling that my body and brain may be shutting down!  I think I'm now on auto pilot and going through the mechanisms of flying but haven't truly processed what's to come.  I can't stop the inevitable so I may as well go with the flow and and sit front row and centre of this new adventure!

Fete Accompli/ Dance Class

All photos from The Collection iPad App
I just saw these images on The Collection and fell in love with their candid nature.  Grace Coddington is a creative genius and so poised.  Drew Barrymore is one of my favourite actresses and even in this simple shot she looks fresh face and of course glowing!  Natalie Portman is graceful and beautiful.

Print Is Not Dead- Anthology Magazine

Just amazing!  I can't even imagine the amount of work and man power that went in to creating the sets for this stop motion video by Meg Ilasco for Anthology Magazine.  Not to mention how many photo graphs were taken!  Oh I love it!

H&G Australia Top 50 Rooms

Australian House and Garden picked the following as their Top 3 Rooms of 2011.  I love the chevron rug in number 1 and that theme seems to have followed through to number 2 in the hard wood flooring also.  I'm not surprised since chevron is everywhere at the moment!  I have a things for round mirrors and adore the mirror in number 3.  What do you think?

The Vogue Festival Continued...

Natalia Vodianova

There was certainly a lot of controversy in the Saturday afternoon session at The Vogue Festival.  I never knew Natalia Vodianova was so outspoken and brash.  Most of her comments came from a good place I'm sure but were certainly harsh and Lily Cole was a darling, just a beautiful being.

I was surprised the audience dwindled for the last presentation of the day "Is it all about the red carpet?"  I don't think I need to answer that!  I expected Rachel Zoe to be quite abrasive and stand offish but she flew right in to the discussion and interacted with the audience at the end of the debate.  Her husband Roger was also in the audience and helped Rachel when her mic wasn't working .

The Vogue Festival Continued...

The one and only, Tom Ford.  All I can say about Tom is that I walked out of the auditorium feeling renewed and driven.  Everything he said hit home.  I have been trying to upload videos of The Vogue Festival but for some reason my video's aren't working.  I'll keep trying and hopefully publish them altogether.

I'm Loving...

Source
I am loving this dress, the colour, the collar, the placket, the split at the front and the belt!  A perfect update on a vintage classic.

The Vogue Festival Continued...

Oh Stella!  How I love thee!  A few years ago my university thesis was based on designer collaborations and this woman is the queen of collaborations.  The entire time she spoke I was awe struck and listening so intently.  Some people have an impact on you and Stella certainly did.  Kate Hudson flew in from America to interview Stella and the two joked on stage and both reacted warmly when a baby in the audience cried.  Kate was looking sensational in a blazer and jeans, you would never have known she recently gave birth.  Even if she said she was lactating!

I have to mention as well there was one very brave 16 year old girl in the audience who hesitantly asked Stella how she could get work experience with Stella.  Stella's response "Just like that, we'll get your number."  Amazing!

The Vogue Festival Continued...

Following Dolce and Gabanna on the Friday afternoon were Anne Robinson, Pixie Geldof, Eddie Campbell, Laura Bailey and Mary Portas debating the topic Too Young?  Too Old?  Does fashion have an age limit?  I was thrilled to be seeing Mart Portas on stage as she is the ultimate retail queen and has been dubbed so for many a year now although I was unfamiliar with Laura Bailey and Anne Robinson.  Eddie Campbell I had seen in modelling campaigns and Pixie Geldof of course graces the tabloid and fashion magazines in the UK.  It was particularly a two sided debate in the end between Anne and Mary, although Pixie did contribute to the discussion.  I was a little shocked at Eddie's demeanour and all round presentation.  She looked as though she had just rolled out of bed and had a sour expression fixed on her face for the entire hour.  When Lisa Armstrong the mediator posed a question to her the resulting answers were never more than a few sentences.  Interestingly, Eddie and Pixie are both 21 years old and yet Pixie articulated her thoughts beautifully and on point, it was a real contrast!

Junkers Heaven

The outdoor area

I wouldn't call myself a junker in the slightest but I do have a very keen interest in vintage and the eclectic feel you get when a mish mash of items come together in your living space.  I wasn't always so easy going with my decor choices and probably when it comes to the major things I still am quite traditional but since living in London I have acquired a new fascination with old things.  Recently some friends told me about Emmaus, a French organisation that operates like the Salvation Army I believe.  The websites are quite confusing and my french is limited to sign language so I can't really say what they do exactly but they do have shops.  Not your normal high street store like the Red Cross or British Heart Foundation though, these are more like warehouses or large buildings crammed with second hand goods and are scattered throughout towns all across France.

Since I was in Dijon when one was opened I popped by and was enthralled!  For starters the shops are only open for a few hours a week and the one in Dijon was about 10 kms out of the city so you definitely need a car to get there but by the time I left an hour after opening there were hundreds of people there.  It was quite difficult to take photos because the spaces were quite crammed but the prices speak for themselves.  I bought 3 vintage vanity cases and a beautiful single stem vase for 7 Euros.  Yes, you read right... 7 Euros!!  They have just about everything you could imagine, kids toys, bikes, wood, furniture, bric a brac, clothing, books, old records.  Everything!

This closet was 90 Euros

10 Euros- with a fabric revamp it would be darling!
Have you ever seen so many jars altogether?  1 Euro each.

5 Euros a chair
35 Euros.  Still in shock.
I think the most remarkable thing was these pianos.
150 Euros each.

I loved this cabinet for merchandising a shop.
The shelve edges are gold.  25 Euros.
15 Euros a locker
70 Euros for the dining table

I found a link to this video on The Daily Smudge and immediately fell in love!  It's such a beautiful video, I don't know what I love more the type or the story or Paris!

Matchbook Girl

Source
Do I play Patsy Cline?  Yes!  I also believe you can never have too many cardigans, they're essential to Spring and Autumn and Winter and Summer too.  To count, I have 17 mascaras in my make up box.  I already have my personal stationary picked out and now just need a permanent address to print on it.  I totally brainstorm with friends on everything, not just business ideas.  I think it's pretty set in stone- I'm a Matchbook Girl!

The new issue of Matchbook Magazine is out now and yet again I'm in love!

Happy Friday!

ASOS

Oh my!  The floral print on this jacquard blazer is so pretty!  A couple years ago I would never have worn anything floral but I can't seem to get enough of it now!
