The Vogue Festival

Last week I was very lucky to attend the Vogue Festival in London and spent two afternoons in bliss listening to some amazing and talented people in the fashion industry.  Both days felt totally surreal as the guests featured were people I have long admired and in the case of Stella Mc Cartney focused my thesis on at university.  I was awestruck the entire time she spoke!

I don't think any of the video's or photo's I post will do it justice but it will give you an insight in a wonderful two days.  If you get the chance to attend, do!

Dolce and Gabanna

I did have another video of Dolce and Gabanna however for some reason it won't load.  Turn the volume up on this one!

Life Update...

Westminster taken by me

My life at the moment is a whirlwind of travel and sightseeing, goodbyes and new adventures.  I can tell you my emotions are all over the place and my heart is pulling me one way and my head the other.  I have never delved too much in to my personal life but perhaps this will be cathectic.

For the past 2 and a half years I've lived in Europe, specifically 2 years was spent living in London, England.  As soon as I arrived it was as if I had come home.  As dorky as that sounds it was quite unreal and every time I stepped out the front door it was almost like having a gusty breeze blow and sweep me off my feet.  It was hitting me head on and I loved it!  I'm originally from Australia but never quite fit the Aussie mould.  So having found my feet and I would even say my identity in London I had to face the fact that I only had a 2 year visa.

Towards the end of 2011 life began to speed up and I felt like I was the Titanic with life decision icebergs dead ahead.  Of course my coping mechanism was denial, isn't everyones?  So here I am many months later and I am finally beginning to open my mind to the possibility of another life not in London.  Seeing that in writing actually looks quite ridiculous and I'm sure you are thinking how can someone spend so long ignoring the fact that they are moving countries.  I would be thinking that too if it wasn't happening to me! Without getting too sidetracked and heading back to University for Psych 101, I've finally acknowledged/come to terms/ accepted/ gone with the flow that I am moving back to Australia... in about 3 weeks.  Yikes!

I had a plan.  A really good plan and that was to travel as much as I could before I had to head back to the sunburnt land.  It's kind of ironic that I refer to Australia as the sunburnt land because I do not like the hot weather what so ever.  I'm a winter baby and while my friends are freezing and layering up in    -10 degree weather I am the one taking layers off, not wearing gloves and wearing only one pair of cotton socks under my boots.  If my feet didn't get wet I would wear flip flops or trainers all winter!  Clearly I am suited to the United Kingdom's weather!  So my plan has been in action since January and I've been lucky enough to visit some amazing places with only 3 weeks left to make the most of it.  I have lists of emails to write to people, thank you cards to post and blogs to publish so I better get on it!

Thanks for listening

The Fashion Museum in Bath

I found this post saved as a draft and although it's not very good blogging to post something so old I posted it today so that you could see the beautiful wedding gowns.  It was interesting for me to see the photos again as so often you take the photos and then don't look at them again!

I had been dying to visit the Fashion Museum in Bath since I attended the Vintage to Vogue course at the V&A museum and the curator of the Fifties Frocks exhibition came to talk.  I wish I had of seen the beautiful 50's dresses in the exhibition, but I did buy the book from the shop!  There was a particular part of the museum where you could walk era by era and view how the museum store all of their products.  Not only was it informative on the fashion in each decades but also interesting to see the extent of the collection and how it is cared for.  At the time their main exhibition was on wedding dresses following on from the Royal Wedding in April and their current exhibition shows the costumes worn by celebrities in films.

The oldest dress in their collection

It was so difficult to walk!

The Styleliner

Sydney Poulton's blog The Daybook directed me to her post about cardigans in the Washingtonian this week and after reading her oh so true article I clicked back through the other articles published this week and was intrigued by The Styleliner .  Joey Wolffer has taken her wares on the road in the form of a converted potato chip truck!  You should see the photos, it's truly inventive.  Wolffer drives the truck to various destinations including the Hampton's, DC and Miami.  Her idea is another take on fast fashion and the evolution of "buy it now before it's gone" but certainly a creative and quite possibly cost effective method of running a  business.  Check out her website for info and if your town is next on the tour!

I'm lagging behind

Source

I'm having a moment and it feels an awful lot like I'm back in year 12 studying for my final exams.  You know that overwhelming feeling, the one where you keep thinking you are never going to get everything done in time and your brain keeps telling you you're going to fall.  It's in the pit of my stomach.  I can feel it sitting there ready to bubble.

Now I've taken a big deep breathe, let the rant out and am going to focus.
F-O-C-U-S.

What might you wonder is causing such a pit in my stomach, well rationally thinking it's not something that needs stressing about but I am lagging behind in my blogging.  Yes, my blogging.  I have SO much I want to blog about I'm getting ridiculously overwhelmed!  I really a new notebook to process my thoughts on paper and tick everything off a list and I do love Rifle and Paper Co. .  I found the photo above on Pinterest but there are more at there website.

You will love this!

I just stumbled across a blog called Parlour where I found in Nichole's archives this adorable video of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon Levitt.  It may be a song for New Years Eve but the chemistry between these two is just beautiful.

It's a busy day!

Today is going to be super busy and I've tried to get up extra early to be able to get everything done.  On my list today is a trip to the post office, the internet cafe to print some documents that will hopefully allow me back in to the UK in a few days time, a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum and most importantly a getting myself on a flight to Dublin, Ireland!  It's a girls road trip weekend for Easter!  Living overseas and having a group of friends from high school in the same city is always going to end in mischief and this weekend will be no exception- four girls, one car, lots of Easter eggs and guinness!  Bring it on!

I hope you all have a fabulous Easter, please don't drink and drive.

Kitchen 101

How clever are these conversion tables?!  When I find a great recipe it normally always needs converting somehow and now I can do it fail safe!  It really is Kitchen 101... I think I missed that class.

New York City- The Final Tour

My final days in New York City were just incredible, I was lucky enough to get super cheap tickets to Broadway and saw Jersey Boys on my final night.  I walked through Central Park daily taking photos of the glorious blossoms and I visited the Frick Collection for the first time.  I was in awe the entire time I was there and fell in love all over again with Renior.  It seems unimaginable to me that such a beautiful mansion could reside virtually on Central Park and contain some of the most inspiring art works in the world.  The decor is incredible but unfortunately you are not able to take photographs.  I have a mental note of everything though!  In the shuttle on the way to the airport I saw a lady riding her bicycle with a riding helmet on and balancing long poles over her shoulder, in New York City traffic!  Crazy!
