Prohibition 1920's

I'm a bit of a nutter for vintage and indulge myself by dressing up and drinking cocktails from tea cups on the odd occasion, and one of those happened to be over the weekend at the Prohibition 1920's event in London.  A group of friends and I donned our flapper best and headed to West London for some illegal gambling and drinking until the wee hours of the morning and had an absolute blast!  When's the next one?

A little surprise made my day

From google images

Yesterday I was walking home from the bus stop and turned the corner off the high street and as I crossed the road to my driveway two little boys ran beside me and up to the main road.  A voice shouted out to them to be careful and stop and as I looked up I saw a familiar face... Colin Firth!  Last Wednesday I went to see Tinker Taylor Solider Spy and then yesterday I was standing in my street next to Colin Firth!  And yes an exclamation mark is needed every time I say Colin Firth! because he is just that exciting!  If by any chance his assistant has a Google Alert on his name and they're reading this, please tell Mr Firth that he made my day :)

The Harpers Bazaar Chapters

During my busy weekend off not long ago I somehow managed to fit in time to visit the V&A museum in South Kensington for a lecture by Glenda Bailey, the editor in chief of Harpers Bazaar magazine.  The lecture was based around the release of her new book titled Harpers Bazaar Greatest Hits and includes her most treasured covers and editorials sectioned by year beginning with 2001.  It is one beautiful book and certainly captures the greatest and most intriguing photographs the magazine has published in recent history.  To show you guys a little more of what Glenda had to say I recorded sections of the lecture on my Iphone and I'll put them up gradually over the next week.  Enjoy watching them and I hope you get an insiders perspective of the magazine just as I did!

A Sunday Sojourn...

I spent a lot of last weekend out and about in London which was absolutely lovely since I don't always get to head out on the weekends due to work.  While Saturday was spent strolling the Thames around Borough to St Pauls, I travelled to East London to visit the Columbia Road Flower Market for the first time on Sunday.  It was delightful!  The market area itself isn't that large but the shops along the street are lined with flower vendors all yelling out specials and laughing between each other and the shop fronts are so beautifully decorated I almost felt like I was in a scene from Notting Hill the movie!

I'm a romantic at heart

Pretty Preen

From style.com

Have you seen these amazing Preen dresses and skirts?  I am utterly in love the with beading detail on the front body and the creativity of the shape of the skirt.  I'm dreaming of an extravagant dinner party to wear these to.... if I had them!

A Saturday Stroll

If you are ever in need of a beautiful tour through London town on a Saturday try the route I did today.  I couldn't believe how many of the major sights and tourist destinations I took in or walked past on my wander.  I started at Borough Market to sample some delicious food, ambled up Clink street to the River Thames and then wandered along the path towards the Millennium Bridge where I crossed over and headed straight for Saint Pauls Cathedral.  I then jumped on a bus to Piccadilly Circus.  Although my meandering only took an hour and half or so you could stop at the Globe Theatre or the Tate Museum for an afternoon of enlightenment or even climb Saint Pauls!

Happy Friday!

It's the weekend and I am not working for 2 days!  Oh what bliss!  I have so many lovely things planned to do this weekend and am so incredibly excited to see my best friend again next week.  She has been in America the past 3 weeks and today is at Disneyland.  I wish I was there with her!  She's been having a rough time the past couple days and I so want to cheer her up.  I hope she is screaming her lungs out on Magic Mountain and eating piles and piles of fairy floss!

Tall Painting

Watch this amazing artwork evolve from pouring paint in layers.  If I could have this on my living room wall I totally would!

On my shopping list

The weather is heading closer towards winter and as the wind blows chills up my spine on the walk to work I desperately think It's time to whip out the autumn coat and what English brand does autumn coats better than Burberry.  But no ordinary Burberry... a Burberry trench coat.  Check out that iconic checkered print under the collar, the wide storm flap and front pocket goodness!  It's on my list!

House of Holland Fall 2011

I am in love with the striking tweed colours and sliced shoulders on these House of Holland Fall 2011 garments.  They are an absolutely stunning way to showcase one of the UK most traditional fabrics.

The Thames at Hammersmith

Sunday morning was spent at a local vintage market and because my housemates mum is in town we headed down to the pubs by the Thames in Hammersmith for some lunch and a drink.  The sun was shining, there was a cool breeze and it was perfect cardigan weather.  My kind of day!

My first chicken parma in the UK- yum!

Chanel at Harrods

After reading the blogs of Coco's Tea Party  and Liberty London Girl a couple days ago and seeing their posts from the Chanel exhibition at Harrods, I spent my Sunday venturing out to see it for myself.  Every time I see a Chanel 2.55 I flutter on the inside, a little part of me sparkles when I see the interlocking CC's and I'm forever walking past Chanel boutiques whenever I travel just to get a peak of their beautiful stores. I have a couple pieces of exquisite Chanel jewellery and for my 21st birthday my parents bought me a beautiful classic Chanel bag.  I thought today the perfect time to show you my latest Chanel piece...  a reworked button necklace that two of my good friends in London gave me this year for my birthday.  I love the long chain that dangles and the embossed button placed gently in to a gold clasp allows me to wear Chanel everyday with out seeming to over the top.  Although that's never really possible when wearing Chanel!
